Brain games are the new trend in enhancing workplace dynamics. They have been shown to improve concentration and working memory, the two most important factors that decide the quality of performance. The benefits of brain games don’t stop there however, studies show that they are also involved in improving creativity, logic, and verbal skills. These are just some of the innate qualities that they help boost in an individual. Now let’s look at the science of how brain games actually help improve employee performance in the workplace

1) Winning a game bestows a sense of accomplishment thereby releasing a neurotransmitter called dopamine. Dopamine is basically a happy messenger. This chemical agent is important in motivation since its release into the blood stream elicits a response of “flying high” which is addictive and pushes individuals to strive for more while helping alleviate stress.

2) Testosterone is another chemical that is released when one feels a sense of victory or perceives the thought of achievement. This hormone is associated with increased energy levels, an elevated mood and stronger self-esteem.

3) Repetition and recall which are major elements in brain games are very important in reinforcing neural connections within the amygdala which is the center for memory and decision making in the brain. The stronger the connections, the faster the brain can make these associations in the future when dealing with similar or related situations.
